GODALIKA & PERSONAL Godalika, sometimes a quartet, and other times more, has recently become more and more noticeable mostly inside a specific circle of musicians, and the Slovenian public space. Regular features of the band are two violins (Jelena Ždrale and Klemen Bračko), viola (Matjaž Sekne) and violoncello (Klemen Hvala). They are often joined by bass player and composer, almost a fifth member of the cast, Nino de Gleria, author of most compositions on their regular repertoire.
Despite of a traditional cast arrangement, their music is unconventional and hard to label, as it includes jazz, ethno, and classical influences. The number of band members varies, since the musicians, in their flexibility, allow for the shrinking or expanding of the cast by vocals, piano, and even drums. The flexibility enables them to cooperate with numerous artists, co-create various projects, record music for television and feature films, and theater performances. They have appeared on festivals and culture events allover Slovenia (Festival Lent, Festival of poetry and wine in Medana, Druga godba 2006 …).
In May 2008 they played at the famous Joe’s pub in New York as a part of presentation of the contemporary Slovenian music scene, an event organized by the National Geographic Traveler. On this occasion, the cast of Godalika, regularly appearing as a string quartet, will be introduced to you in a new, extended musical cast, and with a fresh repertoire, under the name of Godalika & Personal. In their latest project, founded on poetry-in-music by mostly Slovenian poets (Kosovel, Menart, Novy, etc.), they are joined by another three musicians: Neža Trobec on vocals, Luka Ropret on the guitar and composer of the majority of their songs Nino de Gleria. You will be hearing new “godalically-personal” material that has been co-created, apart from the above mentioned, by the cream of great musical names such as Aleš Rendla, Drago Ivanuša, duo Silence, Astor Piazzolla; and is waiting fresh at this moment to see the light of day on their new disc. In any case, worth listening to, because it brings plenty of poetic and musical delights.
