Dušan Jovanović: NISEM - book presentation

Wednesday 11 May at 8 pm - the presentation of the poetry collection Nisem by Dušan Jovanović. The discussion with the author will be hosted by Simona Kopinšek.

Poems by Dušan Jovanović keep misleading the reader to the extent that they face the inability of simple calculating, taking notes and recording. The energy discharging in the process is enviable and extremely lucid, evoking a humorous effect of the type that takes us through the suspense of the final lines into laughter and liberation. As common sense as they might seem, poems from Jovanović's poetry debut Nisem are dramatic, almost cathartic, their potential range possibly reaching masses, even stadiums. Refined through layers of time, they present themselves in clarity and readable communicativeness, which is only rarely encountered in Slovenian poetry of the present. With Nisem, a résumé of life, a drinking debt, an addition line, the message is only seemingly simple. It has been expressed with the measure of pathos and self-reflection, a dramatic pirouette and writer's own cunning that can be ascribed to a living classic, which makes it a dessert for wealthy readers, while making everyone else become poetry gourmets immediately.

Dušan Jovanović (1939) is one of our most prolific dramatists and theatre directors. His works have won him both the Prešeren fund award (1979) and the Prešeren award (1990), as well as several Grum awards, the last one for the play Ekshibicionist (under the pseudonym O. J. Traven).
