Nejc Gazvoda: V petek so sporočili, da bo v nedeljo konec sveta – book presentation
Thursday 28 Oct at 7 pm - the presentation of the book V petek so sporočili, da bo v nedeljo konec sveta / On Friday it was announced that the world would end on Sunday by Nejc Gazvoda. The discussion was hosted by Simona Kopinšek.
V petek so sporočili, da bo v nedeljo konec sveta is a confused book, first as an excellent combination of crazy stories, but also because of being integrated painfully straight into life, the world, the street, where the main narrator has just graduated; everything is set for a new chapter, new adventures, and particularly, for success. However, it can be that one neighbour is a murder, another a manic spider-lover/free time dad shoots at gummy bears, and there's a young female neighbour swinging with her luscious boobs at an open window. This is a book about the street where everything seems right, yet everything is wrong, so hurrah! to the end of the world, this catastrophe has to be celebrated properly.
Nejc Gazvoda, born in Novo mesto in 1985 is an established Slovenian prose writer. His first book, the short prose collection Vevericam nič ne uide, was awarded the Dnevnik Fabula prize for the best short story collection in 2006 and the award Golden Bird granted by the Liberal Academy. His first novel Camera obscura also attracted considerable attention and raised the question of whether Nejc Gazvoda is a representative of a new generation of prose writers in Slovenia. His second novel Sanjajo tisti, ki preveč spijo was published in 2007 in Beletrina series, Študentska založba publishing, and followed in 2009 by V petek so sporočili, da bo v nedeljo konec sveta.
