Jaka Tomc: Zgodba o Davidu Locku / The Story on David Locke - book presentation KIBLA multimedia centre, Thursday 20 May at 7 pm - the presentation of the book Zgodba o Davidu Locku / The Story on David Locke by Jaka Tomc. The talk with the author was hosted by Simona Kopinšek.
“You know what's best when the day ends? Tomorrow it starts again,” said Chris.
The Story on David Locke is the first novel of the young Slovenian writer Jaka Tomc, who wrote a non-typical story on a non-typical American writer. The story is a genre fusion - comprising everything from a comedy and a whodunit, action and thriller to the brim of science fiction. The main character David Locke is a combination of Hank Moody of the Californication series and Holden Caulfield from the book Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Sallinger. He has a great sense of detail; he enjoys life and makes the most of it, at the same time being split internally. The novel is complete fiction, yet the author admits it has autobiographical elements.
About the author: Jaka Tomc is a new name among young Slovenian writers and poets. “Writing somehow sets me free; it enables me to put my traumas and fears on a piece of paper, thus getting them out. The cathartic feeling when looking at the words you have put on paper is priceless,” the author likes to discuss his work. Talking about himself he claims to be a perfectionist. Three words to describe him are real, simple and loving, whereas to describe him using ten words would be like this: relaxed, talkative, good, generous, honest, thoughtful, cute, sociable, fair and rebellious. If he has to describe himself in a hundred songs, he would write a poem, and if he had to use a hundred thousand, he would write a book. The making of the novel, design of the story, poetry and writing careers of the young writer are among the topics to be discussed at the literary event dedicated to the novel The Story on David Locke.
