TALKING HUMANISM Gilles Deleuze: Essays Critical and Clinical

Thursday, 2. 12. at 7pm - TALKING HUMANISM Gilles Deleuze: Essays Critical and Clinic

The discussion of two philosophers about Why Deleuze's thought requires literature. Participants  in the debate were Rok Benčin (who also wrote the preface to the book) and Tadej Troha.

Essays Critical and Clinical is Deleuze's selection of texts on literature, i.e. on the basic concepts and dilemmas within literature. Deleuze poses the question of writing, more precisely of “minority” writing that establishes a new, foreign language within its own language. As encountered in literary art, such writing unearths the internal exteriority of language, thus turning the writing into “delirium”. Yet this is not a neurotic delirium, as it forces “health” beyond neurosis. According to Deleuze, writers are no patients, but healers of civilisation. The book also poses the question of the relation between philosophy and literature, analysing it in both directions. No only it attempts at drawing philosophical concepts from works by Carroll, Beckett, Lawrence and others, it also seeks to provide new information on philosophy through poetry.

Talking humanism is a series of discussions on books published by Študentska založba within its Koda book series. The discussions will resume in February 2011: Michel Foucault, Mladen Dolar, Andrej Medved...

The event has been organised in cooperation with Študentska založba.

The programme has been supported by the Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Book.
