In thirteen essays published under the title Trnje v Arkadiji (Thorns in Arcadia) Denis Poniž focuses on the state of mind in Slovenia. In the book a thought by Dušan Pirjevec reflects that says that in the future it won’t be important what others will be doing with us, but what Slovenians will be doing with themselves.

Poniž is critical not only towards the contemporary Slovenia, but also towards the promised Europe. He is a sceptic, not only “Eurosceptic”, but a sceptic who doesn’t want to understand Europe as our new home where we can fulfil our desires and where all our wishes will come true, but also as a place of constant crisis that in the past has often turned into butchery.
