Lecture / PaoIa Paleari: Lost & Found in TranslationRisk Change (2016—2020) Migration processes are known to affect not only the psyche of migrants, but also their language. Having to cope with a totally new environment, migrants find themselves grappling with an alienating situation that undermines their very possibility of communicating. This condition, that on one side can operate as a barrier towards integration, can on the other lead to new expressive possibilities connecting people beyond their mother tongue. The talk will try to illustrate the various manifestations of this crucial aspect of mobility by presenting a number of projects by contemporary artists whose practices actively focus on language, belonging and migration.
