Patricia Piccinini's exhibition Consciousness, opening in June in Maribor, Slovenia, has been ranked as the Top Contemporary Show of 2016, with three of her shows in Brazil attracting more than one million people.

Besides occupying the leading position among exhibitions of contemporary art (8.340 visitors daily, 444.425 visitors total), with two shows among the top ten most visited (773.871 visitors total), her exhibition in Rio de Janiero ranks second on the list of Most Popular Exhibitions of 2016, preceded only by Post-Impressionist Masterpieces. If we consider her current exhibition Consciousness as a single event on three different venues – in Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, and São Paulo – it exceeds the latter as well.

"Surprisingly, all of these shows were eclipsed by a free exhibition of work by a female contemporary artist from Australia. Patricia Piccinini’s fantastical, mutant human and animal sculptures drew 8,300 visitors a day to the CCBB in Rio de Janeiro, 5,200 to its Brasilia venue, and 3,100 to its São Paulo branch. That makes Piccinini the top contemporary artist according to this year’s survey."

The opening of the Patricia Piccinini exhibition Consciousness is set for Thursday, 29 June 2017, at 7pm (19:00) in KIBLA PORTAL, Valvasorjeva 40, Maribor, Slovenia, with a guided tour of the exhibition with the artist on Friday, 30 June 2017, at 5pm (17:00).
