On Friday, 30 September 2022, at 7 p.m., we kindly invite you to KiBela, space for art, for the opening of the exhibition entitled Narodni dom Maribor – The Center of Cultural Events Since 1899, which was created on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Narodni dom Maribor.

The exhibition will present the story of the building and the institution in the form of a comic book by Gašper Krajnc, highlighting the interesting developments from 1899, when the Narodni dom Maribor was the first to unify Slovenian cultural life, to today, when it is the headquarters of the Narodni dom Maribor and the center of the cultural life in the city. In the past decades, the building has witnessed several post-war reconstructions of cultural life and the struggle for culture in Maribor.

On 25 October 2022, the exhibition will move to to the Narodni dom Maribor, where it will be on display until 23 December 2022.

Gašper Krajnc (1985, Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia) is a Slovenian comics artist and illustrator. As a self-taught artist, he started drawing late, when he was 25. From his beginnings in the field of animation, he later transitioned to drawing comics and debuted as a comics artist for the first time at the 11th International Comics Festival (Belgrade, 2013) with his comic Mode: Imagination. In 2016, he self-published his debut RITE (Ritual), which opened the door to Slovenian comics. With the help of the latter, he published his first full-length cartoon Malgaj in collaboration with screenwriter Marijan Pušavec at the Museum of Contemporary History in Celje. Mestne ptice (City Birds) announced with a selection of panels at the exhibition of the same name in August 2020 at the Vodnikova domačija Gallery, is the first longer-length cartoon he has also signed as a screenwriter. Krajnc is self-employed in culture. He lives and works in Ljubljana.
