Jasna Kozar / Maribor grafittiWednesday 13 May 2009 at 7 pm, DLUM Gallery, Židovska ulica 10, Maribor - the opening of the exhibition Maribor Graffiti by the academy-trained painter Jasna Kozar. Beginning at 5 pm, a graffiti campaign took place at the Židovski trg square outside the gallery.
The exhibition Maribor Graffiti in DLUM Gallery presents the latest work by the academy-trained painter Jasna Kozar. Parallel to the works belonging to the author's recent production, some older works will be shown, the contents of which present significant points in the story told by the author's colour expression. The integration of recent and older works at the same time offers a broader insight into the formal approach in dealing with the painting surface. On the basis of the author's opus the observer is thus enabled on various levels to track the development of the artistic expression and the search for new technological possibilities and solutions.
The main topic of the series of exhibited works is portrait and self-portrait, integrating the series as the common thread. The portrayals present the painter's personal story, being provided a retrospective touch through the integration of the recent and older works. Portrayals by Jasna Kozar always carry an extensive account hidden behind the artistic expression that has been set in the forefront. The figure is merely a medium, used by the author to tell her own story, and this charges her works with intense energy.
Jasna Kozar graduated in 1977 from the Academy of Fine Art in Ljubljana, mentored by G. Stupica. In 1979 she began her postgraduate studies at Ahmedabad Design Institute in India. She is a freelance artist.
