Mladen Stilinović: Insulting the Anarchy / Vrijeđanje anarhijeFriday, the 5th of October 2007 at 8pm at Kibela: the opening of the exhibition of Mladen Stilinović: Insulting the anarchy.
The exhibition was opened until the 23rd of October 2007.
Mladen Stilinović, born 1947 in Belgrade, lives and works in Zagreb. He exhibits since 1975. Most of the works on this exhibition were created during the years 2005 and 2007, works from the period 1993 – 2003 are also included.
"Leitmotiv" of Stilinović's body of work is critique of the society and the system of art, but at the same time author advocates the social dimension of art (art as the critique of society). Insulting the anarchy is therefore another attempt of »the fight« against the pressures of the régime and values enforced by it. Sharp darts are aimed at the politics of the world superpowers, consumerism, pressures of the church, state organ control and other phenomena of the contemporary society, that poison and enslave individuals. The critique of the world of art is perhaps even more personal. Author slams the pride and prejudice of the curators, critics and other guardians of the art, it touches the problems of exhibitions and gallery systems and not even the artist with his »greedy« attitude towards the gallery space can't get away.
In the time of categorizing, great analysis and difficult synthesis Stilinović presents his playful and lucid »analysis«, parody, eloquent in itself. Images brought from the »outside« world, come to life without additional explanations and author's interventions and so touch the viewer with minimal means of expressions.
