Reading Group: Word and Photography
As part of our informal education program, we are delighted to announce our reading groups. The series of ten meetings will be moderated by curator Nina Šardi and literary critic Tonja Jelen. We will meet once or twice a month until the end of 2024 at MMC KIBLA or at the artKIT exhibition space. The Reading Group is conceived as an open space for meeting, dialogue, discussion, and collaborative learning about ecological, socio-political and activist topics, which will be drawn from KIBLA's intermedia productions and visual exhibition program. The aim of the shared reading of selected texts and collective reflection is to learn about a wide range of artworks and to exchange knowledge on current theories of modernity, the development of technology and social, political and economic concepts that dictate global shifts, thus conditioning our everyday lives.
The Reading Group is aimed at the general audience; no professional background is expected, except a sense of curiosity and a desire for collaborative learning and sharing knowledge. However, it is strongly recommended that you read the selected texts in advance. To register your participation and to receive specific texts, which will be sent to you in PDF-format, please send an e-mail to tonja.jelen@kibla.org or nina.sardi@kibla.org. Registration is for information only and is not binding.
You are cordially invited!
3. Word and Photography Wednesday, 5 June 2024, 5 p.m. MMC KIBLA
The third meeting, entitled Word and Photography, will be held on the occasion of the exhibition Signum Punctum by Vito Oražem and Lela B. Njatin and it will focus on photography and text as a response to it. For the starting point for this meeting, please read the current gallery list Sentences and Views by Peter Tomaž Dobrila. You can find it on the attached link to our website. At the same time, we invite you to read the article by guest artist Lela B. Njatin, Trust in the Name of Art (A Memoir on the Genesis of a Structure), which was published in the magazine Sodobnost (vol. 88, April 2024, pp. 355–366). How can we combine literature and photography is the initial question we are asking ourselves for the debate at our third Reading Group meeting.
