Reading Group: Trusting Nature

As part of our informal education program, we are delighted to announce our reading groups. The series of ten meetings will be moderated by curator Nina Šardi and literary critic Tonja Jelen. We will meet once or twice a month until the end of 2024 at MMC KIBLA or at the artKIT exhibition space. The Reading Group is conceived as an open space for meeting, dialogue, discussion, and collaborative learning about ecological, socio-political and activist topics, which will be drawn from KIBLA's intermedia productions and visual exhibition program. The aim of the shared reading of selected texts and collective reflection is to learn about a wide range of artworks and to exchange knowledge on current theories of modernity, the development of technology and social, political and economic concepts that dictate global shifts, thus conditioning our everyday lives.

The Reading Group is aimed at the general audience; no professional background is expected, except a sense of curiosity and a desire for collaborative learning and sharing knowledge. However, it is strongly recommended that you read the selected texts in advance. To register your participation and to receive specific texts, which will be sent to you in PDF-format, please send an e-mail to tonja.jelen@kibla.org or nina.sardi@kibla.org. Registration is for information only and is not binding.

You are cordially invited!

7. Trusting Nature
Wednesday, 23 October 2024, 5 p.m.
MMC KIBLA

The seventh meeting of the Reading Group is based on the exhibition THE SWAMP by Alja Piry and Mateja Kavčič and the book O zaupanju v naravo (On Trust in Nature, Zavod za favnistiko Koper, 2022) by Iztok Geister. We will ask the question of what nature means for humans and for the entire system (political, economic, social, etc.) and discuss this question based on the article Subvencije in očiščenje zemljišča do zadnjega grma (Subsidies and Clearing the Land to the Last Shrub) by Iztok Geister (link to the article in Slovenian) and the accompanying notes to the exhibition written by BA Mojca Štuhec (HERE). The question of what is left of nature in our increasingly anthropocentric and narcissistic world will be raised and at least a little problematized in order to shed light on the relationship we build with our mother nature.
