Reading Group: About the history of fresco painting

As part of our informal education program, we are delighted to announce our reading groups. The series of ten meetings will be moderated by curator Nina Šardi and literary critic Tonja Jelen. We will meet once or twice a month until the end of 2024 at MMC KIBLA or at the artKIT exhibition space. The Reading Group is conceived as an open space for meeting, dialogue, discussion, and collaborative learning about ecological, socio-political and activist topics, which will be drawn from KIBLA's intermedia productions and visual exhibition program. The aim of the shared reading of selected texts and collective reflection is to learn about a wide range of artworks and to exchange knowledge on current theories of modernity, the development of technology and social, political and economic concepts that dictate global shifts, thus conditioning our everyday lives.

The Reading Group is aimed at the general audience; no professional background is expected, except a sense of curiosity and a desire for collaborative learning and sharing knowledge. However, it is strongly recommended that you read the selected texts in advance. To register your participation and to receive specific texts, which will be sent to you in PDF-format, please send an e-mail to tonja.jelen@kibla.org or nina.sardi@kibla.org. Registration is for information only and is not binding.

You are cordially invited!

8. About the history of fresco painting
Wednesday, 13 November 2024, 5 p.m.

At the eighth meeting of the Reading Group we will talk about the immovable cultural heritage and the history of fresco painting, focusing on the current exhibition of Maja Šubic So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish. Fresco is one of the fundamental and central techniques of fine art since prehistoric times. Today, only a few artists in Europe are dedicated to the traditional fresco, so it is essential to shed light on the history of such an important, yet disappearing, technique.
