Reading Group: Nature and human
As part of our informal education program, we are delighted to announce our reading groups. The series of ten meetings will be moderated by curator Nina Šardi and literary critic Tonja Jelen. We will meet once or twice a month until the end of 2024 at MMC KIBLA or at the artKIT exhibition space. The Reading Group is conceived as an open space for meeting, dialogue, discussion, and collaborative learning about ecological, socio-political and activist topics, which will be drawn from KIBLA's intermedia productions and visual exhibition program. The aim of the shared reading of selected texts and collective reflection is to learn about a wide range of artworks and to exchange knowledge on current theories of modernity, the development of technology and social, political and economic concepts that dictate global shifts, thus conditioning our everyday lives.
The Reading Group is aimed at the general audience; no professional background is expected, except a sense of curiosity and a desire for collaborative learning and sharing knowledge. However, it is strongly recommended that you read the selected texts in advance. To register your participation and to receive specific texts, which will be sent to you in PDF-format, please send an e-mail to tonja.jelen@kibla.org or nina.sardi@kibla.org. Registration is for information only and is not binding.
You are cordially invited!
4. Nature and human Thursday, 20 June 2024, 5 p.m. artKIT
The fourth meeting will build on the establishment of nature and the human being and vice versa. How both nature and human beings coexist and live together is the question we are asking ourselves at this meeting. The starting point is Kamila Śladowska's exhibition Healing Bodies, Healing Ecosystems, which shows in an eloquent and insightful way the human beings’ indifferent treatment of the whole world. We have forgotten that there are vibrations, voices, flickers all around us, produced not only by humans but also by vegetation. We invite you to read Uršula Berlot's article The Idea of Nature in Contemporary Art (HERE), which will be discussed alongside the exhibition.
This year's reading group will feature guest artist Kamila Śladowska, so the event will be held in English.
