Peter Brötzmann trio - the concert

The second concert of the first jazz package in 2006 introduced  the music of  Peter Brötzmann, who this time brought together the infernal power of jazz, funk and rock. He was accompanied by a trio that literary bursts with energy and demands everything from the old master!

PETER BRÖTZMANN TRIO (D/Ch)
Peter Brötzmann – saxophones, clarinets, tarogato
Marino Pliakas – el. bass
Michael Wertmüller - drums

Celebrating his 65th birthday jazz saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, a European jazz grand master, had returned to Maribor. From the middle of the sixties he has been one of the most influential jazz personalities and has, with his expresionist manner of playing, filled more than 200 albums with all the important jazz representatives from Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, to Mats Gustafsson and Hamid Drake. The group Last Exit (Ronald Shannon Jackson, Bill Laswell, Sonny Sharrock and occasionally Herbie Hancock) that brought free jazz closer to thousands of people used to rock, punk, funk and metal is especially standing out in his work. Their concerts are still considered legendary all over the world-and exactly out of this super-group the trio with their congenial partners is getting  their inspiration.

Marino Pliakas is a robust bassist of probably the only real post-rock group (Steamboat Switzerland), Michel Wermüller is a metal inclined drummer who is a behind the steering wheel of the Alboth! group who are »the most brilliant rock band of all times« by Spex magazine opinion. The three of them together are also amazing: moving in the cosmos of jazz improvisation and rhythmic rock, funk and metal, the trio presents Brötzmann in until now unheard energetic sound. There's no need to worry: it was loud and unique!
