Assif Tsahar and Cooper-Moore - the concert

The second jazz package music will take us back to the roots with the help of three concerts that united influences and sounds from New Orleans, North Africa, lands beyond the Carpathians and popular music.

From original instruments, Iraqi percussions and Algerian pipes, each one of the three stories has its own beauty – if the first jazz package's guide stars were the guitarists, this time the blowers took lead. These blowers make the geographical, stylistic and time limitations evaporate. No wonder that Assif Tsahar and Cooper Moore named their last album »Tells untold« and Denis Colin named his latest piece of work that he will present in Maribor »Something in common«. Despite all the differences: loyal, yet open flirting with the tradition – whether ancient or contemporary – is what unites this jazz package trio.

Assif Tsahar & Cooper Moore
(USA, Israel)

Assif Tsahar – tenor-saxophone, bass-clarinet
Cooper-Moore – vocal, banjo, diddley-bo, mouth bow, percussions, flute

Assif Tsahar is young Israeli saxophonist and clarinettist living in New York (since 1990) and on its way to achieve a huge success. The sound of his saxophone is unusually rich, blooming, sometimes squalling and as such following the steps of the biggest masters: Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Albert Ayler.
Cooper-Moore is active now for more than 30 years – at first as a jazz pianist (David S. Ware, William Parker, Susie Ibarra) later as a music performer, instrument inventor and in the last year as a professor and music therapeutist.
Tsahar has already been a guest on the Izzven Jazz Festival in Maribor, first in 2003 (trio Drake/deJoode/Tsahar) and then in 2004 with this duo that brought along an important and current political message. Their music comes from the core of the USA – it is »Americana« in the broadest sense of the word, composed of protest songs, fake blues, exstatic jazz and balads and is, with its «tells untold«, a reflection of the reality of our time.
