KIBLIX 2024 | MIGAV Music Cycle: Tadej Droljc
MIGAV Music Cycle Tadej Droljc: Beambreaker: First movement / Singing Sand Wednesday, 4 December 2024, at 8 p.m. MMC KIBLA
We cordially invite you to the fifth event of this year’s MIGAV cycle, to the performance of Tadej Droljc, which will take place on Wednesday, 4 December 2024, at 8 p.m. at MMC KIBLA.
On this occasion, Tadej Droljc will present only the first movement of Beambreaker, performed with sound and video projection only. Beambreaker, a work for laser, light, curved mirrors and sound, is a performance that deals with volumetric audiovisual objects created by the close synchronization between refracted light beams and sound waves. These objects are multi-stable – when we observe them, we are not sure if we are hearing the sound of moving light structures or if we are seeing an embodiment of sound, or perhaps something in between? Within the poetic space of Beambreaker, all of these interpretations are equally valid. This ambiguity, mixed with the cross-fertilizing effect of sound and visuals, offers a very personal experience of audiovisual reality.
The real-time audiovisual composition Singing Sand is based on a programmed reciprocity of visual and sound imagery – swarms of particles in a virtual three-dimensional space and granularly synthesized sonority. The parameters of the sound thus influence the position, color and movement of the particles in real time through the use of physical algorithms. In this way, Droljc aims to create a holistically immersive and sensually synaesthetic model of AV performance.
Tadej Droljc is a Slovenian artist and creative coder who works at the interface of sound, image, laser and light. For his work, Tadej has been awarded the Lumen Prize Student Award, the Dennis Smalley scholarship in electroacoustic music and the most promising video artist award at Madatac. His practice-oriented doctoral research was recognized by the Centre for Research in New Music with the Vice Chancellor’s Award for outstanding dissertation. A work from his collaborative project Synspecies won the Edigma Semibreve Award and was shortlisted for the Lumen Prize in the moving image category. Tadej has performed and exhibited at festivals and events such as Mutek Montreal, Mutek Mexico, Sonar Istanbul, Ars Electronica, Paris Biennale NEMO, L.E.V., Brighton Digital Festival, Deep Space Shanghai, Semibreve, Lunchmeat, Node, WeSA Seoul, Shibuya Tokyo, etc. As part of his collaboration with the Ars Electronica’s Future Lab on the Immersify project, his work is permanently exhibited in the Ars Electronica’s Deep Space 8K in Linz and has been presented at events such as Inter BEE Tokyo, IBC Amsterdam, and Marché du film Festival de Cannes.
