Mersid Ramičević: Aperturelive sound installation, presentation Monday, July 10, 2017 at 8 p. m. MMC KIBLA, Ulica kneza Koclja 9, Maribor
Aperture is a live sound installation followed by a presentation of the Sets of Earshot topology by Mersid Ramičević, a composer and improviser, the Guest Room Maribor artist-in-residence.
Aperture is the second piece in the editions of the Sets of Earshot Topology, Mersid’s long-term project in terms of musically informed social choreography.
Aperture is about the lost industrial identity and aural perspectives of the city of Maribor – once considered for the “Yugoslavian Manchester”. Aperture is a piece of music concerned with iconography of sound, and post-industrial aesthetics of sound. It is based on sound files and acts of amplifying the research findings, which Mersid attained through the institutional and public environment in Maribor. His research has been basically performed through the Museum of National Liberation in and the Faculty of Engineering, University of Maribor (the Textile Department Labs), so he wanted to accommodate his piece in regard to the industrial imaginaries of the city’s industrial treasure and the contemporary art initiatives which evolved out of it.
The performance will be followed by graphical and verbal score samples examined though the medium of the MaxScore Picster and based on the rasters and patterns which have been used for the sake of textile wearable visuals.
The main goal of this research project was to try out to facilitate an interdisciplinary discourse and mediate the transferability of compositional concepts within the given post-industrial circumstances, that are seen either as passively auditive or participatory – triggering the sounding content conditioned by the set of their own standards and norms and generating the conditions for music-making interventions, at the same time.
